Women in business

Supporting women in business

Enterprise Ireland believes that Ireland’s economic success will be driven by harnessing a strong entrepreneurial ecosystem which utilises the skills, ambition and talent of a diverse population.

Increasing opportunities for women entrepreneurs and in management is a strong focus for Enterprise Ireland, and this work is underpinned by our six-year Action Plan for Women in Business.

A key objective of our Women in Business Strategy is to grow the number of women becoming entrepreneurs and leaders, and we have set ambitious targets. While there is still work to do, progress is now clear and in 2022, 37% of the 161 start-ups we invested in were women-led, up from just 8% in 2012.

With our six-year Women in Business Strategy, we aim to grow the number of women becoming entrepreneurs and increase the participation of women in senior leadership.

The strategy is underpinned by four key objectives:

  1. Increasing the number of women-led companies growing internationally

  2. Increasing the number of women in middle and senior management and leadership roles in Irish companies

  3. Increasing the number of women becoming entrepreneurs

  4. Increasing the number of women-led start ups with high growth potential

Enterprise Ireland’s “The Level Project”, part of our focused efforts in this area, is an initiative that’s supporting companies to develop gender balanced leadership teams.
