Nutritics

Nutritics is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) company enabling food businesses to manage and publish recipes, improve food safety, reduce costs, and monitor environmental impact. Their vision is to connect the global food supply chain through the world’s most trusted food data - delivering insights that enable better-informed decisions.

Project Objectives

Nutritics undertook an RD&I-funded project to integrate environmental impact data into its platform. The aim was to help businesses track, reformulate, and report their environmental footprint to consumers, investors, and in tender processes - addressing the growing demand for transparency and sustainability in the food sector.

Results

Nutritics developed an automated environmental impact feature - branded "Foodprint" - to calculate the carbon and water footprint of foods, recipes, and menus. RD&I support enabled integration of UK and Ireland-specific data, digital menu publishing, and advanced emissions dashboards. The tool empowers businesses to track performance, reformulate dishes, and communicate impact clearly to clients and consumers.

Impact

As Foodprint adoption grows, so does its environmental impact. Based on existing case studies, for every 1,000 locations that Foodprint is deployed, 58,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually can be removed - the equivalent to taking 13,600 petrol cars off the road (based on EPA average emissions of 4.26 tonnes per vehicle per year).

Some examples of Foodprint’s impact:

BaxterStorey Ireland – Climate-conscious Menus

BaxterStorey, a contract caterer operating across Ireland and internationally, implemented climate-conscious menus at two locations. Using Foodprint, they developed 4,900 lower-impact meals over a three-month period, saving 29.2 tonnes of CO₂e. This equates to an annual saving of 58 tonnes of CO₂e at a single site.

Aramark – Scaling Sustainability Across Sites

Aramark, a global contract catering provider, rolled out Foodprint across 300 UK military locations. As a result:

  • 25% of dishes were rated “green”
  • 72.5% of sites reduced their average dish emissions
  • Average carbon per dish fell by 18% to 0.53kg
