Mannok Cement

Mannok Cement Limited is part of the Mannok Holdings DAC (Mannok) business group and manufactures Portland Cement for distribution and sales across Ireland and the United Kingdom. Trading successfully since 2000, Mannok Cement holds a 25% share of the Irish cement market.

Project Objectives

Mannok has committed to reducing its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 35% by 2030, with a long-term goal of achieving Net Zero by 2050. The company’s decarbonisation strategy outlines the top 10 priority areas that will deliver on their 2030 target.

Enterprise Ireland is supporting Mannok in realising this ambition by supporting a first-of-a-kind project to enable efficient carbon separation and sequestration, develop novel technology to concentrate and capture carbon, and assess a circular economy solution by creating value-add products from product waste streams.

Impact

Mannok leveraged Enterprise Ireland’s Exploring Innovation and R&D supports to build their team’s capabilities, to scope the full project, and to evaluate competing higher Technology Readiness Level (TRL) technologies aligning to their GHG emissions reduction goals. They are also involved in an Innovation Partnership and Lean initiatives to extend their capability and support their decarbonisation journey.

In late 2024, Mannok was awarded Environmental Aid and R&D funding to embed carbon capture technologies and processes to capture significant tCO2, and to create new value streams.

The cement sector is one of the primary sources of Ireland’s industrial emissions. Mannok’s project is significant as it demonstrates GHG emissions reduction and aligns to supporting economic impact in the company with increasing jobs, exports and productivity.
