How can we help?
Norway is widely recognised as one of the world's leading aquaculture nations. As the global demand for sustainable seafood continues to grow, the Norwegian industry is under increasing pressure to improve fish welfare, reduce mortality rates, address sea lice challenges, optimise feed efficiency and demonstrate ever stronger environmental performance. These challenges are creating significant opportunities for innovative Enterprise Ireland client companies capable of delivering solutions.
Over the past two years, Enterprise Ireland Nordics has worked closely with BIM (Bord Iascaigh Mhara) to support Irish companies seeking to enter and grow in the Norwegian market. Through initiatives surrounding AquaNor 2025, HavExpo 2026, and ongoing market engagement activities, our objective has remained consistent to help Enterprise Ireland clients develop the skills, knowledge and relationships required to win business in one of the world's most advanced aquaculture markets.
While trade exhibitions such as AquaNor and HavExpo provide valuable visibility, success in Norway is rarely achieved through attendance alone. The companies that succeed are those that invest time in understanding customer challenges, developing a clear value proposition and building strong sales and marketing strategies tailored to the market.
A common misconception is that entering Norway is simply about identifying the largest operators and arranging meetings. In reality, success often comes from understanding specific industry pain points and demonstrating how a solution delivers measurable commercial value. Whether addressing sea lice management, improving water quality monitoring, reducing feed waste, enhancing biosecurity or supporting fish welfare, Norwegian operators increasingly expect solutions that are backed by data, evidence and a clear return on investment.
In practice, Norwegian aquaculture operators tend to engage with new technologies in a structured and evidence-led way. Rather than adopting unfamiliar solutions at scale immediately, producers often look for pilot projects, proof of concept trials or controlled demonstrations that show clear operational benefit under Norwegian farming conditions. This reflects the sector’s strong emphasis on fish welfare, biological performance, sustainability and cost control. For Irish companies, this means that market entry is not only about securing meetings with large operators, but about being ready to demonstrate credible data, customer references and a clear pathway from trial to commercial deployment.
Recognising this, Enterprise Ireland's role extends well beyond facilitating introductions. Over the last two years, we have helped companies better understand routes to market, identify priority stakeholders and engage with key decision makers across the sector. Through market intelligence, local insights, panel discussions and targeted networking opportunities, we aim to equip companies with the tools required to compete effectively in Norway.
An important component of this work has been the development of structured support programmes. In collaboration with colleagues in BIM, Irish companies have benefited from market preparation workshops, mentoring support and industry briefings designed to strengthen market readiness. More recently, through the introduction of a dedicated Norwegian Pathfinder programme, we aim to provide companies with tailored support to refine their market approach and maximise commercial opportunities ahead of AquaNor 2027.
Enterprise Ireland has focused on bringing industry expertise directly to Irish companies. By sourcing experienced speakers and market practitioners, companies gain firsthand insights into buyer expectations, market dynamics and the practical realities of doing business in Norway. Panel discussions at events have created opportunities for companies to learn directly from industry leaders while building valuable networks across the aquaculture ecosystem.
Looking ahead to AquaNor 2027, our ambition is clear. Enterprise Ireland want to see more Irish companies move beyond initial market entry and become embedded within the Norwegian aquaculture value chain. Success will come through preparation, persistence and partnership.
Because ultimately, entering a market is one thing. Winning business and building long-term customer relationships is what really matters.
