Irish fintech makes its mark at Money2020 Europe with major partnerships with global companies including Deutsche Bank and Global Payments

Irish Minister of State for Financial Services and Enterprise Ireland, Europe’s third most active fintech investor, leads major Irish delegation to Money20/20 Europe

Ireland's rapidly expanding fintech sector made its mark on the opening day of Money2020 Europe in Amsterdam today. The Irish Minister of State for Financial Services and Enterprise Ireland leads a dynamic Irish delegation, announcing four new deals that highlight Ireland's growing influence in the global fintech landscape.

These announcements come on the heels of exceptional growth for Irish fintech, which attracted nearly €1 billion (€997.8m) in investment over the past 5 years. In 2023, while European fintech VC deal activity stabilised, Irish fintech saw an exceptional year, securing €266.3 million in investment—the second-highest deal volume in a decade—according to a new Enterprise Ireland report powered by PitchBook data. This strong performance reflects the strength of the Irish fintech cluster and has positioned Enterprise Ireland among the top three most active European fintech investors in 2024.

At Money2020 Amsterdam today, four Irish fintech companies announce major new international partnerships, milestones and new product launches, including:

  • TransferMate, the world’s leading provider of embedded B2B payments infrastructure as a service (IaaS), announced a strategic partnership with Deutsche Bank. The long-term partnership will see TransferMate work with Deutsche Bank in various countries, enabling TransferMate to provide in-country collections, cross border payments, and the ability to store funds locally.  As a result, TransferMate now has the most extensive local collection capabilities of any B2B cross-border payments provider, building on what is already the largest fintech payment infrastructure in the world’
  • Splink, a provider of custom digital payment solutions and strategic consultation, whose backers include former Manchester United boss Ed Woodward, announced an enterprise partnership with Global Payments, one of the world's largest payments organisations to commercialise their Stadia and Events Technology in Ireland and pilot their new SoftPOS system. The partnership delivers an exclusive commercial Irish partnership of Global Payments’ Stadia & Events technology - live at iconic venues like Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge, Newcastle’s St. James’ Park and being deployed for Live Nation events including Electric Picnic
  • Prommt, the Irish-based enterprise payment request platform announces a major milestone in Open Banking adoption, with one of the UK’s top pre-owned prestige car supermarkets collecting over £60 million via Prommt’s Pay by Bank - within 60 days of going live. By capping card payments at £500 and dynamically routing larger transactions through Prommt’s Pay by Bank, the merchant unlocked immediate savings and strong customer uptake.
  • Engage Hub, the data-driven journey orchestration and contact centre automation company, announced the launch of its AI Knowledge Base – a centralised, intelligent library of product, service, or brand-related information that empowers users to find accurate answers instantly, without the need for agent support.

Welcoming today’s announcements at Money2020 Europe, Minister of State at the Department of Finance with special responsibility for Financial Services, Credit Unions and Insurance, Robert Troy TD, said: Ireland has become a key producer of fintech, with Irish solutions being adopted by major global players across the world. The Irish government has long prioritised the development of the financial services and fintech sector in Ireland, ensuring the right regulatory, start-up, funding and innovation environment. We can see the dividends of this, in the strength of our Irish-born fintech cluster and their impact globally.”

Anna-Marie Turley, Head of Enterprise Ireland’s fintech and financial services portfolio commented: "The strong presence of Irish fintech at Money2020 Europe reflects the sector's remarkable evolution, becoming global leaders in their own right, securing major partnerships with global payment giants and financial institutions and launching cutting-edge AI solutions that are transforming customer experiences. These announcements today demonstrate the continued momentum of Ireland's fintech sector, which has defied the market backdrop and performed extremely well, increasingly attracting international attention and investment.”

Over 20 Irish fintech companies are participating at Money2020 this year and will be showcased at the Irish Pavilion (stand 1H130) including industry heavy weights FEXCO, TransferMate, ID-Pal, Know Your Customer, DAON and rising stars such as Apata, Dimply, Prommt, Splink, CleverCards, Continuum Commerce, Engage Hub, Facilipay, among others.

More on the announcements:

TransferMate’s strategic partnership with Deutsche Bank

TransferMate’s strategic partnership with Deutsche Bank will open new currency corridors to provide businesses with new local, in-country payment collection capabilities. In its initial phase, the partnership will facilitate business in several APAC markets  with an aim to expand into other regions thanks to Deutsche Bank’s extensive global network. TransferMate now has the most extensive local collection capabilities of any B2B cross-border payments provider, building on what is already the largest fintech payment infrastructure in the world.

"The strategic collaboration between TransferMate and Deutsche Bank underscores the immense potential of fintech-bank partnerships in accessing and scaling global markets, particularly navigating the high-growth yet diverse Asia Pacific landscape," said Ole Matthiessen, Head of Cash Management & Head of CB APAC MEA at Deutsche Bank. "This showcases the strength of our offering, aligning seamlessly with our Global Hausbank strategy. We look forward to this journey together, which will drive TransferMate's growth and improve their operational efficiencies through our tailored solutions."

Commenting on the partnership, Gary Conroy, CEO at TransferMate, said: “Our collaboration with Deutsche Bank is another significant milestone as we continue to grow our global footprint and be the embedded B2B partner of choice.
