How can we help?
Thomas Sheridan is a Senior Market Advisor for Agriculture and Engineering at Enterprise Ireland Nordics.
Regionally based, global impact.
Ireland is home to a dynamic and export-focused agri-engineering sector, with Enterprise Ireland-supported companies representing one of the most geographically diverse and innovative sub-sectors in the country. These companies, rooted in regional clusters across Ireland, have built a strong global reputation through collaborating with partners and dealers around the world, including in the Nordics.
Irish agritech and agri-machinery companies have tested expertise across key segments including baling and forage systems, feeding and nutrition technologies, slurry and spreading equipment, and livestock comfort solutions. There has been a growing emphasis on agritech and agri-sustainability, with Irish firms developing smart, climate-resilient technologies that align closely with Nordic priorities around precision farming, environmental care, and sustainable food production.
The Nordics: A priority market
The agriculture sector across the Nordic region is mature and increasingly motivated by sustainability and innovation. Although each market has its own characteristics, farmers across these countries are open to solutions that deliver automation, environmental sustainability, and technological advancement. Irish companies have risen to the challenge, and the Nordic region was the second fastest growing market for Enterprise Ireland supported Irish agritech companies in 2024.
Ireland and Denmark share similar farming environments; mild climates, grass-based systems, and a strong focus on dairy and livestock. These commonalities mean Irish agriculture companies are well attuned to the practical needs of Danish farmers. Denmark’s agricultural policy is particularly focused on sustainability, targeting a 70% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030, including the introduction of a CO₂ tax on livestock emissions, and promoting plant-based food production through substantial government grants and incentives. From durable machinery to smart, sustainable technologies, Irish solutions are field-tested in conditions that closely mirror those in Denmark making them a natural fit for Danish dealers seeking reliable, high-performance products.
Sweden’s focus on sustainability, precision agriculture, and rural innovation makes it a natural fit for Irish agritech. Irish companies like McHale, Prodig, Malone, and Easyfix have built strong reputations in Sweden by delivering durable, animal-friendly, and forward-thinking solutions. Irish firms are not just machinery suppliers, their technologies can support Sweden’s goals for smarter, greener farming, offering dealers access to high-quality, field-proven solutions that enhance productivity, animal welfare, and environmental performance.
Despite natural constraints such as climate and terrain, Norway’s agricultural sector shares key characteristics with Ireland’s particularly strong emphasis on grass-based livestock farming. This common ground has helped make Norway a receptive market for Irish agritech and machinery exporters. Companies like Conor Engineering and Mastek have already found success by offering solutions tailored to the needs of Norwegian farmers. Ireland’s experience in developing robust, efficient equipment for similar conditions backed by a culture of innovation and practical design aligns well with Norway’s agricultural priorities of food security, sustainability, and regional equity.
Ireland's National Ploughing Championships 2025
For Nordic dealers and distributors, the National Ploughing Championships provide a fantastic opportunity to visit one of Europe’s largest and most dynamic agricultural showcases. They are unmatched as a strategic entry point into Ireland’s thriving agritech & machinery ecosystem and an opportunity to meet face-to-face with leading Irish machinery manufacturers, explore technologies tailored to Nordic farming conditions, and learn how Irish agritech and agri-machinery can accelerate Nordic ambitions.
The Ploughing Championships have a strong record of facilitating long-lasting and fruitful partnerships. For example, Swedish importer Nordfarm joined a recent Enterprise Ireland delegation to the Ploughing Championships, and this has since developed into establishing partnership with Irish manufacturer ProDig. Similarly, key Nordic shows such as Agromek and Borgeby Fältdagar have provided a platform for Irish companies like Dromone Engineering, Malone, and Moonsyst.
