Hanley Energy opens North American HQ in “Data Centre Alley”, Virginia USA with announcement of 150 global roles

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar welcomes announcement in Washington today 

 

Enterprise Ireland client company Hanley Energy, a global innovator in Critical Power and Energy Management solutions, today announced plans to create 150 global roles, as it opens its new $12 million US Headquarters in “Data Centre Alley” Ashburn, Virginia. In 2024, Hanley Energy will create 100 jobs in the USA and 50 in Ireland, as the company continues to expand its global operations, delivering critical power and energy management innovation to global data centre operators, including Amazon Web Services and other global players. 

 

The new state-of-the-art 40,000 sq. ft. facility is the latest addition to Hanley Energy’s global network. The company currently employs 800 people across 6 countries, including Ireland, USA, Australia, Germany, Sweden and South Africa and exports to 32 global markets. 

 

The announcement was made today in Washington D.C. as part of Enterprise Ireland St. Patrick’s Day programme of business events, led by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and Enterprise Ireland CEO, Leo Clancy, marking the accelerated investment levels by Irish companies in the U.S. 

 

Speaking in Washington D.C., Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, said: “This is a significant announcement by Hanley Energy of another 50 jobs in Ireland and 100 in the USA. The company’s work helping large industries to reduce emissions has never been more timely. It builds on the team’s previous announcement of 225 new jobs in Monaghan and Dundalk.

“Climate change is the greatest threat facing humanity today. I believe Irish businesses, and enterprise in general have a pivotal role to play in turning the tide on climate change and biodiversity loss so we can leave the planet to the next generation in a better condition than we inherited. Congratulations to the team on this really fantastic achievement.”

 

Ahead of speaking on a panel at Enterprise Ireland’s sustainability focused event in Washington D.C. later this morning, Clive Gilmore, CEO of Hanley Energy and leading Hanley Energy’s operations in the U.S., said: “Opening our North American headquarters and expanding our global workforce with 100 roles in the U.S. and 50 in Ireland, is a pivotal milestone in Hanley Energy’s global operations as we grow our global workforce to over 950 employees. It also lays the foundation for future expansion as we deliver energy and power management solutions to our partners Amazon Web Services and other multinational technology providers in the U.S. and across the world. Since our foundation, Enterprise Ireland has supported us in our growth and has been instrumental in helping us establish a foothold in North America.”

Hanley Energy’s new facility in Virginia, will be officially opened by Leo Clancy, CEO of Enterprise Ireland, and Michael Carey, Chairman of Enterprise Ireland.

 

In 2016, the company originally chose the Loudoun County, VA location, in the heart of “Data Centre Alley”, as headquarters for its U.S. regional offices in Ohio, Oregon, and San Francisco, starting with just 2 employees. Hanley Energy’s decision to invest in a new facility was welcomed at the time by Governor of Virginia, Glenn Youngkin, as a huge boost to the local employment market and regional data centre landscape. 

 

Today, in Washington D.C., Enterprise Ireland is hosting a sustainability event on market opportunities for Irish companies including changes to U.S. government policy as the market transitions to a greener future. Keynote speakers will include, Kitty DiMartino, Chief of Staff to John Kerry, Special Presidential Envoy for Climate.
