Karl Zimmerer, Group Managing Director of Glanua, Alma Ní Choigligh, Ambassador of Ireland to Portugal and Alberto Cisterna Director Spain & Portugal at Enterprise Ireland

Irish water and environmental engineering group already employs more than 20 people in Portugal, with plans to grow the team to 40

Glanua, a leading Irish engineering group specialising in water, wastewater and environmental infrastructure, has officially opened its Lisbon engineering office, strengthening the Group's international engineering capability and supporting its continued growth across Ireland, the UK and internationally.

Established in late 2025, Glanua's Lisbon operation has expanded rapidly, prompting the company to relocate to a larger, newly established office to accommodate its growing team. More than 20 engineering professionals are now based in Lisbon, providing specialist engineering, design, BIM and digital delivery support to projects across the Glanua Group.

The team is continuing to grow, with plans to add a further five engineers by the end of 2026 and reach a team of 40 as Lisbon becomes an increasingly important part of Glanua's wider international engineering network.

The official opening was attended by Alma Ní Choigligh, Ambassador of Ireland to Portugal, Alberto Cisterna, Enterprise Ireland's Director for Spain and Portugal, Glanua's leadership team, local business partners and members of Glanua's Lisbon team.

While the opening of the Lisbon office marks an important milestone in Glanua's international expansion, the company's connection with Portugal dates back much further. Portuguese engineers and technical professionals have played an important role in Glanua's development since its early years, contributing specialist expertise to projects across the Group. Portugal's strong engineering tradition and internationally recognised expertise in water and environmental engineering, together with its highly skilled graduate talent, made Lisbon a natural location for Glanua to establish its engineering hub. The company has also built strong links with Portuguese universities, including NOVA University Lisbon and the University of Lisbon, with graduates joining Glanua and developing their careers within the Group.

Karl Zimmerer, Group Managing Director of Glanua, said:

Portugal has been part of the Glanua story for many years and it is fantastic to see that relationship develop into what we have here today. We have Portuguese engineers who have been part of Glanua for many years, and graduates who joined us at the beginning of their careers and have grown with the business. What makes Lisbon particularly important is that it is becoming an integral part of our wider global engineering team. Bringing together the talent and expertise we have in Portugal with our teams across Ireland, the UK and our other international markets will allow us to deliver even more for our clients as Glanua continues to grow.

Alma Ní Choigligh, Ambassador of Ireland to Portugal said,

The opening of Glanua's Lisbon office is a welcome demonstration of the growing economic partnership between Ireland and Portugal. Glanua's investment in Lisbon is an excellent example of how Irish and Portuguese strengths can be combined to deliver sustainable solutions and support future growth.

Alberto Cisterna, Director Spain & Portugal at Enterprise Ireland said,

Glanua's investment in Lisbon is a strong example of the international ambition we see across Irish companies. By combining its engineering expertise with Portugal's highly skilled talent base, Glanua is building a strong platform for further international growth. Enterprise Ireland is delighted to support the company as it strengthens its presence in Portugal and continues to scale across international markets

The Lisbon expansion is the latest stage in Glanua's wider international growth strategy.

Glanua has grown significantly in recent years across Ireland and the UK and has expanded its international footprint through the establishment of its Lisbon engineering hub and its first US office in Radnor, Pennsylvania.

The Group now employs more than 750 people across Ireland, the UK, Portugal and the US and expects revenue to exceed €200 million in 2026, following revenue of €155 million in 2025.
