Navigating the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation

Webinar

Date: Wednesday, 11 November 2026, 1-2pm

Speaker: Repak

The Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) replaces the Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive (PPWD), introducing harmonised packaging rules across the EU. PPWR will have implications for many businesses including who is classified as a ‘Producer’, what is identified as packaging and how this is reported.

The main objectives of PPWR are: To reduce packaging waste across the EU (5% reduction by 2030, 10% by 2035, 15% by 2040) Make all Packaging Recyclable by 2030 Increase Use of Recycled Content in Plastic Packaging (30% by 2030, 50% by 2040) Promote Reuse and Refill systems to reduce single use packaging Enforce bans on certain single use formats PPWR applies to all economic operators placing packaging on the EU market.

This includes manufacturers, importers, distributors and producers. While all economic operators must comply with PPWR legislation, Producers bear the primary responsibility for packaging placed on the market and are obligated to report packaging quantities to an EPR (Extended Produce Resopnsibility) Scheme and pay EPR fees. Whether you manufacture, import, sell online, supply retailers, this regulation is likely to affect you.

Repak, will provide an overview of PPWR, including key obligations, practical implications and what businesses need to consider as they adapt to the new regulatory landscape. Repak will also outline how they are supporting businesses in navigating the new compliance requirements and Ireland’s transition to a circular economy.
