Irish Agriculture Making Its Mark on the Nordic Market

For more than two decades, Borgeby Fältdagar has been the meeting point of those within the Nordic agricultural industry, their suppliers, customers, and partners. It’s the region’s largest outdoor agri show, taking place at the end of June each year in Borgeby on Sweden’s southern coast. Attended by over 20,000 importers, dealers, contractors, distributors, and farmers from Sweden and Denmark, Borgeby Fältdagar offers a unique platform for forging connections, facilitating trade, and exchanging insights and wisdom within the realm of Nordic agriculture. The event has become a highlight Enterprise Ireland Nordic’s calendar, proving a great opportunity to introduce Irish companies to the region, build on established relationships, and firmly plant Ireland’s footprint on what has grown to be a key market for our agricultural companies.

The core theme of this year’s event, around which the agenda focused, was energy and economy. After a year of volatile prices for supplies, grain and feed, alongside the energy crisis, the conversation was centered around how to reduce the effect these are having on the farmer’s bottom line. As expected, a spotlight was also shone on pioneering agricultural technologies and cutting-edge machinery, with a specific focus on solutions that increase efficiency and alleviate costs for farmers.

In the 2023 edition, Borgeby hosted more than 400 exhibitors, crop specialists, live machinery demonstrations, and insightful seminars. At the heart of the event, the Irish Pavilion, hosted by Enterprise Ireland, showcased the offering of seven Irish enterprises: Dromone Engineering, Shamrock Farm Enterprises, Agritech, BóPro, Applied Concepts, Easyfix, and Cashels Engineering. Additionally, six Irish companies teamed up with local partners—ProDig, Keenan, McHale, Kingspan, Malone, and Keltec—a strong Irish representation at the event.

Ireland’s National Plowing Championship

As one of Europe’s largest outdoor agricultural exhibitions, the National Ploughing Championship, held in Ratheniska, Co. Laois, attracts farmers, exhibitors, and visitors from across the country and beyond. Recongnised for its cultural significance across the country and abroad, the remarkable event combines elements of a trade show, cultural celebration, and agricultural competition, contributing to the promotion of modern farming practices and upholding Ireland’s rural heritage.

The Ploughing Championship provides Enterprise Ireland with a valuable platform to showcase leading Irish agricultural machinery and products to a global audience of importers, dealers, and farmers. This year, Enterprise Ireland is set to host 50 stakeholders representing 20 different countries, facilitating introductions to numerous Irish companies throughout the event. The event has, in recent years been an excellent way to uncover the synergies between the Irish and Nordic agricultural sectors. Last year, Swedish Importer Nordfarm joined Enterprise Ireland’s delegation at the event, and the level of innovation displayed by Irish companies left a lasting impression on their team, so much so that they have since partnered with Irish company ProDig. Here’s what their Sales Manager, Claus Ekbom had to say about his experience:

“The trip to the National Ploughing Championships was a great way to see Irish machinery and products. We were taking care of very well for the duration of the trip. Darragh was a great help in identifying and introducing us to companies we were interested in. We are looking forward to going again this year”.
