Horizon Europe and other EU Research Funding

If your company is interested in working on collaborative research projects with research partners across Europe, there are a range of international research programmes designed to foster collaborative cross-border research between companies in different member states.  The main programmes include:

Horizon Europe

Horizon Europe (2021-2027) is the 9th European Union Framework Programme for Research and Innovation. It is the biggest and most ambitious programme of its kind ever with a budget of over €95 billion.

Eureka

Supporting new product development in collaboration with companies in other countries, EUREKA is a close-to-market R&D programme involving 37 European countries. In EUREKA, you and your collaborating partners decide for yourselves on the subject-matter, scale and duration of your R&D project.

Eurostars

Eurostars provides funding for market-oriented R&D with the active participation specifically of R&D-performing small and medium enterprises.   Ireland is a participating country in Eurostars and Enterprise Ireland supports Irish SMEs to get involved.  A Eurostars project must be carried out by a consortium involving partners from two Eurostars participating countries.

Joint Technology Initiatives (JTIs)

Ireland makes funding available to facilitate the participation of Irish companies in projects under Joint Technology Initiatives (JTIs). There are currently two open in the areas of Embedded Systems (ARTEMIS) and Nanoelectronics (ENIAC).
