Mr Yip, is an independent Non-Executive Director as well as Senior Advisor of several listed and private companies in Hong Kong, Mainland China, Thailand and the Republic of Ireland, including Ping An Insurance, Sun Hung Kei Properties and HSBC Jintrust Asset Management.
He joined HSBC in 1965 with working experience in Hong Kong, United Kingdom, USA and China. He was appointed Chief Executive China from 2003 to 2005, later a General Manager of HSBC and Executive Vice President of Bank of Communications. Since retired from HSBC Group in 2012, he was appointed Chief Representative of IIF (Institute of International Finance) for Asia Pacific until July 2015.
He was educated in Hong Kong, graduated with an MBA from the University of Hong Kong. He received the Ten Outstanding Young Persons Award for his contribution to the banking industry and the community. He was awarded the MBE by the British Government in 1984 and the Bronze Bauhinia Star by the Hong Kong SAR Government in 2000. He was appointed an unofficial Justice of Peace since 1999. He is also serving a second term as a member of the Shanghai Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. Mr Yip is active in civil, community and youth activities. He is currently a Board Member of the Hong Kong Air Cadet Corp and an Honorary Member of the HK Committee of Unicef. He had served in many government and charitable boards including the Aviation Advisory Board, Arts Development Council and the Urban Renewal Authority.
