Thorsten Terweiden, Deputy Head, Fintech, Invest Hong Kong, London, The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region
Thorsten Terweiden is Deputy Head of Fintech and based at the London Office of Invest Hong Kong, the government department responsible for attracting and facilitating foreign direct investment into Hong Kong.
He joined Invest Hong Kong in July 2015 and was responsible for Financial Services and Innovation & Technology. In September 2016 he was appointed the European Fintech Lead for InvestHK, covering the EU as well as Israel Turkey and Russia. Projects, both big and small, that have recently come from these sectors include Guernsey Finance, Brompton Bikes, Charles Russell Speechlys LLP and theCable London Ltd. He became a Tech London Advocate in November 2015 and is member of the TLA China and Fintech working groups. Since June 2017 he is a mentor for XnTree and Cocoon Networks. Mr Terweiden is a regular speaker, moderator and panellist at Fintech conferences (MoneyConf 2017, World Fintech Forum 2017).
Mr Terweiden worked on successful export promotion projects on behalf of the German Ministry for the Economy, as a project assistant at the German-British Chamber of Commerce in London in 1997. After earning an upper second-class honours master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Münster in 1999 Mr Terweiden started his career in Germany at Münster/ Osnabrück International Airport where he did public relations work as Supervisor of the Visitors’ Service. From 2001 onwards Mr Terweiden gained over four years work experience in the UK automotive sector, as Aftersales Customer Care Supervisor at the GM/Vauxhall/Opel European Customer Care Centre in Luton/England. That same year Mr Terweiden became Finalist in the category "Global Customer Service Professional of the Year" at the National Customer Service Awards in London. In 2004 Mr Terweiden joined the Swiss Business Hub UK in London as Trade Officer. There he worked on export expansion projects for Swiss SMEs from sectors ranging from Medtech to Food and Drinks. In 2006 Mr Terweiden won “Mandate of the Year 2006” from Osec Business Network Switzerland, for the best export promotion project of all 15 Swiss export promotion offices worldwide. In 2008 Mr Terweiden was promoted to Head of Swiss Business Hub.
From 2013 Mr Terweiden was instrumental in setting up and running a soft landing programme for Swiss Tech companies in London. Also in 2013 Mr Terweiden devised an inward investment promotion programme targeting UK companies from the Financial Services sector. In March 2018 he organised and moderated the first ever InvestHK UK Fintech Awards.
Mr Terweiden was born in Frankfurt/Germany and his hobbies include choral singing, Opera and football.
