Leonora O’Brien is a pharmacist who dedicates her professional life to promoting patient safety and is the Founder and CEO of Pharmapod. Pharmapod develops cloud-based software to help reduce medication errors and drive patient safety, cost savings and business analytics across community pharmacies and hospitals worldwide. In line with the WHO’s Global Challenge to reduce medication incidents by 50% over the next 5 years, Pharmapod has partnered with the FIP, the World pharmacy federation, to achieve tangible outcomes and accelerate learnings and sharing of experiences across the pharmacy profession internationally. The platform is now widely used across Canada for recording and analysis of patient safety incidents and for driving continuous improvement. The platform has succeeded in creating a hugely positive network of professionals united with a common goal – the safety of patients and real, peer-to-peer sharing of experience.
Leonora has over 20 years’ experience in community pharmacy practice, policy development and regulatory affairs at a national and International level. In her time working for the pharmacy regulator in Ireland she was one of 11 members of the National Pharmacist Reference Group, established to progress expansion of the professional services role of the pharmacist. She has also held the Chief pharmacist role for the largest pharmacy group in Ireland. She subsequently worked as European Manager for Celesio AG, with full accountability for development and management of Quality Assurance and Clinical Services Strategy for its 2,300 pharmacies across 8 European countries. This included development and implementation of pan-European professional standards and anti-counterfeit programmes.
Leonora has won numerous national and international awards for pharmacy practice, business and innovation including the Top Digital Health Influencer in Ireland, the Cartier Women’s Initiative Awards and the Tatler Women of the Year Awards for Entrepreneurship.
