Xpreso eliminates the “Sorry We Missed You” card that shoppers receive when they are not at home when the courier calls with their online purchase. Founded in 2013, Xpreso completed a US$1m seed round in Dec-14, with investment from two VC’s, MasterCard & Enterprise Ireland. In addition, Xpreso receiving €150k in EU grant funding in Jul-15. The company received 2 awards at the Irish Logistics & Transport Awards in Mar-15 and the Xpreso solution is currently deployed with Ireland’s largest independent courier firm, Nightline and is in trial with one of World’s leading courier firms. Xpreso’s COO and co-founder, Eamon Keane, was named Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur 2014.
A core and unique component of the Xpreso solution is the consumer smartphone app. Here the consumer may track their delivery in real time and if desired, choose alternative delivery options or return the parcel. The consumer may also pay in-app for such items as parcel re-directs or VAT/customs fees.
The delivery driver tablet app is a further key solution component and replaces the drivers existing sat nav device, mobile phone and paper documentation. The tablet app provides the delivery driver with a digitised run-sheet, turn-by-turn GPS directions to each delivery location, the ability to more efficiently manage parcel collections and one-touch dialling to both the parcel recipient and the delivery company.
In addition to the consumer app and driver tablet app, an administrative web interface is available to both the e-retailers and the delivery company – facilitating real-time tracking of each parcel delivery.
Unique to the market and a step-change from the existing legacy software and hardware technology used within the parcel delivery eco-system, Xpreso's solution provides consumers with parcel delivery status notifications, and a precise delivery window that narrows as the delivery driver approaches. Consumers may track their driver using the mapping function in the Xpreso smartphone app and may re-direct their parcel delivery to a neighbour, parcel locker/shop or request that the parcel is left in a safe place – for example, inside the sliding door of the porch. Consumers may also pay in-app for items such as customs and VAT. Furthermore, returns are managed through the app.
Using the Xpreso solution, e-retailers are provided with the ability to track their deliveries on-screen, whilst delivery drivers have a digitised run-sheet, turn-by-turn GPS directions to each delivery location, the ability to more efficiently manage parcel collections and one-touch dialling to both the parcel recipient and the delivery company.
All parties in the value chain benefit from the implementation of the Xpreso solution – the consumer is happier, the e-retailer sells more, the delivery company experiences reduced costs and the delivery driver delivers more parcels. Delivery drivers are typically only paid upon successful parcel delivery.
Xpreso’s commercial model is based on a low monthly charge per delivery driver. Xpreso also facilitate up-selling to consumers to a more convenient delivery slot and taking payment of VAT and cash-on-delivery – in return for commission.
