Flipdish delivers 300 jobs over two years
8th December 2020
James McCarthy co-founder and CCO of Flipdish and Conor McCarthy co-founder and CEO of Flipdish - New roles enable restaurants to get online in Ireland and across the globe
Flipdish, the Irish digital food-ordering solution, is today announcing the creation of 300 jobs. 100 of those roles were created in 2020 as part of rapid expansion experienced by Flipdish during the pandemic. The remaining 200 roles will be filled by December 2021, with 50 roles being hired for immediately.
The new jobs are mainly technology roles such as software engineers, engineering managers, software architects, data scientists, mobile engineers, and product designers. Other roles being recruited include customer success, customer support, marketing, and sales.
Speaking of the announcement Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Leo Varadkar, TD stated, “this is very welcome news and another great example of an Irish company adapting quickly to the changes brought about by Covid. More and more of us are ordering online from our favourite take-aways and restaurants. It’s great that there is an Irish company behind it all. Flipdish has seen significant growth in 2020, enabling thousands of businesses in the hard-hit hospitality sector to pivot to online ordering systems. I wish them the very best of luck with this latest expansion, which will see 300 new jobs over the next two years.”
Conor McCarthy, Co-Founder and CEO of Flipdish stated, “Expansion was always on the cards for Flipdish in 2020, but we could never have imagined pre-Covid how rapidly we would need to grow this year to play a crucial role in alleviating the crisis the hospitality industry faced. During the pandemic Flipdish enabled thousands of food businesses in Ireland and across the globe to pivot from dine-in to delivery and takeaway, sometimes in under 48 hours, and we were proud to partner with them and help them stay open and operating”.
“Hiring 200 roles next year looks different than it has in the past for us. We are reimagining what the workspace looks like for Flipdish in 2021. We know that the in-person office job is over but our focus is now on finding the best talent regardless” he added.
Flipdish is headquartered in Dublin and operates in 15 countries including the UK, US, France and Germany. In Ireland it provides its technology to well known brands like Eddie Rockets, Press Up Group, Base Pizza and Bombay Pantry. Flipdish also partners with Manna, the Irish drone delivery company. Flipdish’s online ordering system currently connects Manna with Tesco and other outlets in ongoing drone delivery trials in Oranmore, Co. Galway.
Brian Kelly, VP of Engineering at Flipdish stated, “Flipdish employees will have significant opportunities to either launch or enhance their careers across a very fast-growing sector.
The tech roles we’re hiring for are important and make a real difference in day to day operations not only for us at Flipdish, but also for the restaurants that we work with. These employees will be directly responsible for building products and bringing them to market. Every engineer hired will join a team that will be on at least one product line, and will see their work released on a constant basis, making a real difference for restaurants who otherwise struggle with this problem.”
Carol Gibbons, Manager of ICT and International Services at Enterprise Ireland said,” I am delighted to see the ongoing expansion of Flipdish, a high-tech company with a strong culture that Enterprise Ireland has been proud to support over its development stages, including a significant Research & Development grant this year.
“The new high-value jobs which will be created in 2021 demonstrate that Irish innovation and enterprise continues to thrive internationally, even in very challenging market circumstances. Enterprise Ireland looks forward to continuing our support of the Flipdish team as it embarks on a very exciting growth stage of development.”
As part of working in a hyper-growth company in an innovative sector that directly benefits the public daily, Flipdish offers equity to all employees, as well as attractive opportunities for promotion. About Flipdish
Flipdish puts restaurants, cafés, and takeaways of all sizes in control of their business growth with a digital ordering and marketing system that builds brands, grows profits and turns customers into regulars.
With a branded website, app or self-service kiosk, powered by Flipdish’s world-class technology, restaurant owners can directly accept digital orders without having to list on aggregator platforms, at a lower cost and with more control over the customer experience.
Headquartered in Dublin, Flipdish helps thousands of hospitality brands in 15 countries, including brand leaders in Ireland such as The Press Up Group, Eddie Rockets, Wagamama, Romayos, Base Pizza, Café Sol and Bombay Pantry, working in partnership with them to strengthen their businesses.
Support Local, Order Direct
A disruptor in the digital food-ordering industry, Flipdish has recently launched a Support Local, Order Direct campaign which brings awareness to consumers on how to order directly from restaurants and takeaways, ensuring a majority of profits go directly to the establishment, and that the money gets funneled back into the economy.
In addition to taking up to 30% per order from the local food business, online marketplaces such as Deliveroo, Just Eat, and Uber Eats are all headquartered internationally, and when ordering through these platforms, people are essentially sending money abroad at a time when the economy needs local support. By ordering directly from a restaurant or takeaway website/app, the consumer also ensures they are supporting local businesses too.
