“Pioneer is pleased to bring another new environmentally-friendly and leading technology to the China seed industry,” said William S. Niebur, DuPont vice president and general manager of Pioneer China following a signing ceremony held in conjunction with an Agricultural Machinery Workshop in Beijing hosted by Samco. “Pioneer has a proven track record of sustainable productivity improvement through advanced technologies, distribution systems and service that we have introduced in China, including the single kernel planter and professional agronomic services for growers.”

Welcoming the announcement Minister Coveney said, “Today’s announcement is clear evidence of what Irish companies can achieve in China.  This is a significant announcement and confirms the high standing of Irish companies for the quality of their product and service.  China is a priority market for Irish agri-services companies, and Enterprise Ireland is working intensively with these companies to drive increased sales in this huge market. I strongly congratulate Samco and DuPont business Pioneer on this important work.” Enterprise Ireland is the trade and technology board of the Irish government.

The Samco System machine lays a thin layer of biodegradable plastic film over the soil at the time of sowing which increases soil and air temperature. The machine forms a seed channel under the film creating an ideal microclimate for the seed to germinate and develop.  Pairing Samco technology with high-yielding Pioneer hybrids Xianyu 335 and Xianyu 688, which also offer strong root systems, means farmers may be able to plant up to three weeks earlier each spring. The system may also provide the flexibility to harvest earlier in the fall.

“Farmers have successfully used this equipment paired with top Pioneer hybrids in northern climates around the world for over a decade,” said Samuel Shine, Samco managing director. “We are excited to bring this solution to China for the first time through our long-term relationship with Pioneer.”

Pioneer purchased two Samco System mulching machines with plans to add additional machines as demand grows. Samco will supply biodegradable film to demonstrate the new corn silage system to farmers thisspring in Hebei, Heilongjiang and Inner Mongolia. The companies will work together with farmers to make the equipment available through purchase or lease beginning in the 2013 growing season.
