Building Leadership Critical As Irish Companies Prepare for Future Growth

27 CEOs from Leading Irish Companies Participate in Enterprise Ireland's Leadership 4 Growth Programme

Today (Friday 24 April 2009), 27 CEOs of leading Irish companies joined with world-leading Stanford Graduate School of Business in an intense programme to build their leadership and help position their companies to achieve global growth.  They are participants on Enterprise Ireland's Leadership 4 Growth Programme, which is delivered by Stanford, and aims to build the leadership and strategic capabilities of the participating CEOs to drive the international growth of their companies.  Now in its third year, the reach of the programme has been extended to companies across a wide range of sectors and now includes International Services, Software, Technology, Engineering, Electronic and Life Sciences.

The year-long programme is centred on three residential modules at Stanford's campus in Palo Alto, plus a finale in Dublin. The Programme design blends together Stanford executive education, one to one leadership coaching, cohort networks of CEOs with locally-based business advisors, and contributions from leading CEOs, VCs and practitioners from US industry.  It also incorporates a three-day Insights Programme that involves the company senior teams in jointly developing and executing new business strategies for increasing sustained international growth.

Welcoming the companies to the programme Frank Ryan said:
"The challenges and demands facing business leaders have never been more intense.  Leadership capability is absolutely critical if Irish companies are to sustain their businesses, and position themselves for international growth when economic conditions pick up. In this context the learning and skills the Leadership 4 Growth Programme provide can make a real impact and deliver results.  It provides an excellent opportunity for ambitious Irish CEOs to benefit from Stanford's world class business faculty, engagement with highly successful entrepreneurs, specialist coaching and mentoring, as well as practical knowledge and strategy execution supports.  Leadership 4 Growth is a critical part of Enterprise Ireland's support to Irish companies to grow their international business in the face of very difficult market challenges".

Commenting at the launch Prof. George Foster, Programme Faculty Director at Stanford Graduate School of Business said:

"This is a landmark venture.  It brings together key players from the business world and academia to fast-track the growth of Irish companies. We at Stanford are excited to be a part of such an important initiative for Irish companies and for the Irish economy".

Leadership 4 Growth has been developed with support from the Irish Software Association, the Irish Medical Device Association and the Irish BioIndustry Association at IBEC.  This continues the successful Enterprise Ireland Leadership 4 Growth series - the third programme with Stanford, while a dedicated programme has also been developed for the Irish Construction sector, in partnership with the Construction Industry Federation.  This is currently being delivered by Duke Corporate Education.
