Chief Executive Officer

Frank Ryan is Chief Executive Officer of Enterprise Ireland.

Frank was appointed to his current responsibilities in 2003.  He is a member of the Board of Enterprise Ireland, Chairman of the Agency’s Investment Committee and is an ex. offico member of the Board of Forfás.

Enterprise Ireland is responsible for the development and internationalisation of Irish companies engaged in manufacturing and specified internationally traded services.

The Agency’s targeted interventions are focused on working with Irish-owned enterprises to drive Export Growth; Product, Service and Business Model Innovation; Productivity Improvement and initiatives to strengthen the senior management team within client companies including the Agency’s flagship Leadership for Growth Programme for Chief Executive Officers.

Enterprise Ireland is the leading national agency driving entrepreneurship and micro-enterprise development.  The Agency works with Irish and overseas entrepreneurs to establish High Potential Start-Up companies (HPSU’s) in Ireland.  Enterprise Ireland takes direct seed equity positions in HPSU’s and is a significant investor, as a limited partner, in selected venture capital funds including the Innovation Fund.

The Agency has national responsibility for the implementation of the major European FP7 Research Programme in Ireland and is the main conduit through which Irish business and academia work with the European Space Agency.

Enterprise Ireland is a metric driven economic development agency with clear objectives and an established value system – where the client is No 1.

The Agency proactively works with business and research clients at home and overseas to enable them to deliver superior products and services with higher levels of innovation to customers worldwide thereby accelerating their international growth.

Enterprise Ireland client companies directly and indirectly employ in excess of 300,000 people (approximately one sixth of the total workforce in Ireland).   These companies directly spend €19 billion in Ireland on wages, raw materials and services.  At the end of 2011, client company exports reached record levels at €15.2 Billion exceeding pre-recession export performance.

Enterprise Ireland employs 750 people worldwide and received state funding of €343 million in 2011 to implement its mandate.  The Agency operates 29 trade offices worldwide and 10 regional offices in Ireland.

Prior to Frank becoming CEO of Enterprise Ireland he held the position of Executive Director at IDA Ireland responsible for foreign direct investment into Ireland.  He has also worked in the private sector with Irish and multinational computer companies and was based for a period of his career in the United States.

Frank is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin, with a M.Sc. in Strategic Management, and of the Advanced Management Programme at Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.  He is married with two adult children and one granddaughter, Jasmine.
