Tecpro

1 Overview

Over a period of 20 years, Tecpro (www.tecpro.ie) established itself as a leading supplier of test engineering equipment for the electronics industry. With lowering labour costs in the Far East having greatly impacted the global electronics industry, Tecpro recognised a need to develop ebusiness capabilities if it was to survive. A cross-functional, internal team was assembled in order to outline the problems and define a set of objectives.

These were defined as:

  • increase their profile in international markets
  • improve the speed and rigour of the design and specification process
  • decrease lead time through improved internal efficiencies, communication

Together with consultants, Computer Controlled Applications (CCA), a strategic ebusiness plan was formulated. In addition, a number of customers and suppliers bought into the project assisting in early adoption of the system. Intact Software (www.intact.ie) were selected to design and build Tecpro’s web strategy and integrate a suit of products and services. In September 2001 the project went live.

With the investment the company has made in their ebusiness strategy, Tecpro are well placed to continue their growth in new and expanding markets. The market reaction is just one indication of the success of Tecpro’s ebusiness strategy. Recently Tecpro have secured contracts to produce testing equipment for the new Microsoft Xbox games console.
