for Customers
The SAP system is now accessible by all SerCom customers, using
a browser they can view their account and product information.
In some cases customers want to use their own systems to view
data. For these customers, SerCom has tightly integrated their
two systems and now pushes data in various formats up to customers
own systems. This free access and resource of rich information
allows SerCom's customers to get accurate information about
how their company is performing and which products are being
shipped to whom, when.
Customers
now enjoy the added functionality offered by SerCom's web services.
This new feature allows SerCom to offer e-fulfilment to their
customer base. For example, if a customer wants SerCom to ship
out software to an end user via their own web site, SerCom are
able to redirect the request over to their own server and automatically
fulfil the online order. They have realised their objective
of offering 'everything behind the buy button'.
Benefits for the Company
SerCom have always strived to create efficiencies within their
organisation. Tight integration between their internal systems
and their warehouse has bought about complete automation in
the supply chain management. These efficiencies have allowed
them to reduce the number of employees by 25 so far (the majority
by attrition). The RF technology in the warehouse allows them
to accurately keep track of stock and production. The integration
with a carrier company has afforded tighter controls on shipping
and delivery.
Thus
far it has been difficult to justify their investment based
on incremental sales figures. Recently, however, the company
has secured a massive order with a leading hardware manufacturer.
They have credited this order to their new value added business
proposition. It seems that being in a position to provide 'one-stop
shop' service and guaranteed, high volume deliveries to their
customer, has indeed become a powerful selling tool.
