3 . Decision

To avoid the problems previously encountered from adding onto the existing MRP system, SerCom decided to upgrade all their systems. Specifically:

• A new ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning - see sidebar) product would manage all internal fulfilment operations, planning, logistics, order processing, procurement and payments.
• This ERP system would come with web integration enabling access to any SAP transactions over the web.
• Ordering would be available via the web with SerCom offering a means of hosting fulfilment sites on behalf of their customers and managing the entire process from ordering to shipping.
• The warehouse system would be upgraded to accommodate complex 'supply on demand' orders along with RF (Radio Frequency - see sidebar) to record and monitor stock and product movements on the warehouse floor.
• A new Busienss-2-Business platform to help communicate more efficiently with our customers and suppliers and stream line the supply chain.
