5 . The Project

5.1 The eBusiness Solution – business requirements


The business requirements were developed in conjunction with Cyrona, the consulting firm. They were developed along two phases. Phase I was called ‘Simplicity’ and described the basic functionality required to launch the service. Phase II, known as ‘Professional’, included additional features that would allow the service to offer additional customer benefit.

The diagram below (Diagram 5.1) sets out the basic architecture of the service. The boxes on the left represent the ‘Simplicity’ phase and those on the right represent the ‘Professional’ phase.

Phase I – Simplicity

Simple website allowing anyone to come to the site, calculate the price of the order, place the order and pay by credit card. They can then send the order digitally for production.

  2. Instructions available online
  3. Online registration and logon (users do not have to put in their details every time)
  4. Credit Card processing
  5. Calculate price based on volume, tax, extras required (proofing), delivery timeframe.

Background:

  1. Administration screens for the price calculator available
  2. Order sent through by email
  3. Manual order management system and manual scheduling
  4. Order routed for production to remain the same.
  5. Production to remain the same.
  6. Fulfillment to remain the same.
Phase II– Professional

This is an extension of the above service to provide a greater level of service to the professional market.
  1. Client Areas (private)
  2. Proofing Areas and Forms
  3. Variable Price based logon (or discounts) for special customers
  4. Price based logon for resellers
  5. Reseller sign on Section
  6. Priority order and delivery services
  7. Online fulfillment – (e.g. FedEx)
  8. Automated email messages supporting key stages of delivery
  9. Special offers codes related to specific customers (10% discount next time).
  10. Competitions
  11. Online questionnaires both public and private
  12. Image database online – secure area only
  13. Discount promotions for target/promotional groups (pharmacies/nightclubs)
  14. Unidentified new services
