Vitalograph

7 . Lessons Learnt

There were two main lessons learnt by the team throughout the duration of the project:
  • Resourcing – It is vitally important to ensure that the project is properly resourced and therefore to have a very good understanding of what can be sub-contracted and how much work that will leave internally. If an organisation isn’t sub-contracting 100% of the project, how much time will you be expected to put into it? How much time will members of your team put into it and has an allowance been made for this?
  • Ensure requirements are properly defined – It is both unfair and unwise to expect a vendor to understand exactly what your needs are without giving them a strong brief. It’s the responsibility of the client to get this right and to do this, a full understanding of all the business requirements will be needed.
8 . Future Plans

The design of the website will allow Vitalograph to add further functionality in the future. Plans for this functionality include:
  • Supplier access to certain parts of the MRP system via the web e.g. to check availability of stock – when stocks run down, new stock is automatically re-ordered
  • Online ordering for other offices
  • Availability of training packages for distributors or service engineers
  • Software updates and patches for customers to download directly (this would significantly reduce the cost of the current process which requires Vitalograph to send the updates out on a CD)
