12. Lessons Learnt and Advice

Harry Crean of SPD gives the following advice:
  • ensure you know what you want to do and where you want to be
  • plan accurately how you are going to get there
  • evaluate any supplier very thoroughly - call up or visit those references
  • check out at least 10 suppliers - the difference in quotes can be incredible
  • don't buy anything unless you really need it
  • don't be persuaded by consultants, know your own business requirements
Future Plans

The company is now in a much stronger position to compete in a global market. SPD now plan to go for much larger bids with bigger companies. Their investment in eBusiness has put them in the position of being able to go for tenders they previously would have been incapable of fulfilling.

SPD is hiring a dedicated marketing professional to ensure they maintain their leading edge in Ireland and to seek opportunities in foreign markets.
