Sigma Wireless

4 . Decision – application and Vendors

Upon deciding to move forward with the change in strategic direction Sigma Wireless used a formal tender process to bring a consulting firm on board that were capable of providing the supporting eBusiness solution that they required. The process was as follows:

1. Define business requirements
2. Find 2 or 3 technology consulting firms that could potentially provide the solution
3. Choose the best consulting firm
4. Undertake ‘Discovery’ exercise

Octagon was eventually chosen as the solution provider. They were preferred to the other firms because they were the only firm that offered a bespoke solution that was appropriate to Sigma Wireless’s needs. The other firms were offering a ‘package’-based solution. It was felt that a package would not adequately deliver the required functionality and, thus, Octagon were chosen.

The ‘discovery’ exercise was conducted by the broader project team, which included Sigma Wireless and Octagon staff. Its purpose was to challenge the business requirements that had been produced and as Joseph Moore said, ask the question, “How realistic is all this?”

This process enabled the production of the business plan that was focused on the delivery of something that was functional and attainable.
