Atto Abrasives Ltd

4 . Objectives

The objective of the project was to create additional value for åtto’s customers. As Tom Prendergast, the Marketing Director, commented “eCommerce was not an end in itself for us. This was not a way of simply improving efficiencies or reducing costs. The project is much more about driving value for the customer.”

Specifically, the objectives of the project were to:
  • Empower customers to make decisions
  • Give the customer enough information to make decisions
More generally the project was designed to have a positive impact on business processes. It was felt that internal processes would be impacted as follows:
  • Improved order processing and inventory control
  • As customer will be able to enter their orders and application data directly on our system this will free up personnel for other tasks
  • Market information will be more readily available- customer profile- application information- projections

In addition, external business processes would also be impacted:

  • Immediate cross referencing of grade / specification to the International Standard and by extension to the åtto grade
  • Technical support appropriate to the needs of the customer
  • Ability to check the technical specification, shape, speed rating and availability of the product
