Security issues

Currently, one major concern related to eBusiness is the whole area of Internet security. Data transferred across the Internet potentially can be intercepted during its journey because of the open nature of the Internet. Users must feel confident when revealing sensitive information, like credit card details, that this information will be kept safe and secure. Encryption technology, which renders data secure by turning it into an unreadable cipher, is fundamental to the development of eBusiness. However, Internet security is as much about policy as technology.

A good security policy will ensure:

Safety - that sensitive information sent across the Internet is protected during transit

Trust - that information reaches its destination without tampering

Privacy - that personal information stored is available only to authorised personnel

Developing good security means combining the right technology with the appropriate security policy.
