Irish Patents Office Search Tips

  • To do an exclusive search i.e. a search that should include all the terms provided, seperate the terms with AND (or type a space or a , (comma)) . For example: solar AND powered AND car (is the same as solar powered car which is the same as solar, powered, car)
  • To do an inclusive search i.e. a search that should include any of the terms provided, separate the terms with OR (or type a space between them). For example: solar OR powered OR car.
  • To exclude terms from your search put - (minus) in front of each of the terms for listings which do not contain that word. For example: solar -powered OR -car.

All searches are completely case-insensitive. For example: CHEMICAL is treated the same as chemical.

Important: Using OR to separate terms broadens your search to include more documents. To narrow your search, separate terms and with AND.
