The New Enterprise Europe Network for Ireland

The Enterprise Europe Network is a European business support network established by the European Commission to address the needs of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Europe. It combines the strengths of two former European networks - the Euro Info Centres (EICs) and Innovation Relay Centres (IRCs).

Technology Opportunities in Canada

Companies planning on accessing the North American market now have a new channel through an agreement recently signed between Enterprise Ireland and IRAP (Industrial Research Assistance Programme— Canada).  Under the agreement, both organisations will assist companies to:

  • Find a Canadian partner as a gateway to the North American market
  • Find a Canadian technology or product that might be licensed for the European market.

In Ireland the partnership is operated by TechSearch.  Our staff can prepare a profile of an Irish company’s requirements which is then passed to the IRAP network in Canada.   IRAP’s 250 technical advisers have contacts with many thousands of SME’s right across Canada, and as well as seeking companies interested in Irish company profiles, they will also identify companies interested in using Ireland as a gateway to the European market.

TechSearch aims to provide client companies here with a shortlist of opportunities resulting from the matching process in Canada.  Thereafter, if required, TechSearch can help the company in evaluation and negotiation leading to an agreement.  Four Irish companies are already participating and we would like to increase that to 20 during 2007.  Contact Jim Cuddy on jim.cuddy@enterprise-ireland.com or at 01-808 2763.

EI partners with Chambers Ireland for licensing training

An agreement between Enterprise Ireland and Chambers Ireland has resulted in our Technology Acquisition and Licensing course featuring in an innovation training initiative from Chambers entitled “Grow your company IQ”.   Launching the course on 29th November, Mr Eoin O’Driscoll, author of the Enterprise Strategy Group report: Ahead of the Curve, said “In a world of commoditisation of goods and services, Irish companies need to become “price makers”, providing superior products with significant added value.  Using innovation they can apply current thinking in radically different ways to survive and prosper in the global economy.”

The course is a partnership in three modules delivered by NUI Galway, Dublin Institute of Technology and TechSearch.   Jim Cuddy, manager of Technology Transfer at Enterprise Ireland said “This partnership enables us to bring our licensing training to a wider audience, and will take companies through business strategy, innovation planning, technology search and licensing.  A unique feature will be facilitated workshops based on the successful PLATO model.”
