An introduction to Technology Transfer & Licensing - Training Course
Rubicon Centre, Cork Institute of Technology - 11th & 12th March, 2008
Technology Transfer and Licensing can be a fast and cost effective way to acquire new products and technologies. This training course takes companies through the process of acquiring technology from external sources. Conducted over two consecutive days, the course was presented by specialists in licensing from the private sector and from Enterprise Ireland's licensing service. The course deals with the key issues to be considered when companies are looking at licensing opportunities and will include case studies on successful technology transfer from the Innovation Relay Network . Bridging the Border - North/South Business Partnerships
Date: 21 February, 2008, The Slieve Russell Hotel, Cavan
This morning seminar hosted by Enterprise Ireland focussed on the various cross-border business opportunities available to Irish companies. Participants heard about the process involved, the various funding schemes dedicated to North-South collaboration and availed of the opportunity to meet people who are already working with Northern Ireland companies.
This was the fourth event in the series previously run in Belfast, Dublin and Derry. Enterprise Ireland teamed up with Invest Northern Ireland and InterTradeIreland to promote this event and provide the information on the day along with companies already cooperating on a cross-border basis. click here to download seminar programme.
"Innovating the Business Model"
- Using Open Innovation to grow your business in new directions

Enterprise Ireland had a large attendance at its recent Conference on "Innovating the Business Model" - Using Open Innovation to grow your busienss in new directions.
Open innovation is practised by firms that use external ideas as well as internal ideas to create value and advance their growth. An open business model enables a company to build effective partnerships with other companies for technology and trade. It is a key enabling factor in the growth of world-class companies. Well known Irish companies that have successfully innovated their business model are Quinn Direct, Newbridge Silverware, Aer Lingus.
The objective of the conference was to provide a roadmap for business model innovation, illustrated by examples of its different dimensions:

Adopting a customer solutions model

Exploiting a new market opportunity

Engaging in licensing, partnerships and collaboration
The Keynote speaker was Prof Henry Chesbrough, University of California, Berkeley .
A leading authority in the area of business model innovation Professor Chesbrough is executive director of the Centre for Open Innovation at the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. His publications include "Open Innovation-the new imperative for creating and profiting from technology", and "Open Business Models-how to thrive in the new innovation landscape". He has advised and charted the changing patterns of innovation in leading companies such as IBM, Philips, Procter & Gamble and Unilever.

Solid Waste Management Technologies seminar & brokerage event

The Irish Innovation Relay Centre (IRC) at Enterprise Ireland hosted a very successful seminar and brokerage event, focused on Solid Waste Management Technologies. Companies and research institutes that had interests in the development and commercialisation of technologies associated with the processing and conversion of Solid Waste attended. Convergence within a Next Generation Network: the role of IMS

Enterprise Ireland's Innovation Relay Centre hosted this Technology Roadmap Seminar where Prof Thomas Magedanz presented an insight into the latest developments in next generation networks and the pivotal role IMS plays. Speakers also included decision makers, such as directors of research and innovation, in building the network infrastructure and eco-system for the future next generation network.
