Commercialisation of Research and Development (CORD)

Aim

The key aim of the Commercialisation Of Research and Development (CORD) grant is to bring a new product idea/business ventures from our third-level educational institutions to market. 

Who qualifies?

  • A knowledge-based Campus Companies (status conferred by a college)
  • An academic entrepreneurs
  • Non-academics interested in forming a Campus Company
  • A research associated with PATs and Technology Centre Programmes

To be supported, your product idea or business venture must involve

  • an innovative technology, which may have been supported under Enterprise Ireland's Technology Development Phase or
  • be an unique application of an existing technology or
  • be an internationally traded service that can be developed into a High Potential Start Ups.

What are grants awarded for?

The grants are designed to enable the commercial viability of your project to be assessed.

Funding is available for:

  • Market Research
  • Product Trials/Market Assessment
  • Establishing Links with Potential Joint Venture Partners
  • Cost Analysis
  • Financial Projections


Level of funding

CORD grants may be approved up to 50% of eligible expenditure with a ceiling of €38,000 per grant.

Maximum expenditure limits are:

 Expenditure Item  Level of Funding
 Salaries/Wages  €950 per week (non if employed by the college)
 Consultancy  €650 per day
 Travel  Economy class fare
 Mileage within Ireland  €0.40c per mile
 Subsistence  €100 per night within Ireland, €200 per night outside Ireland
 Prototype  50% of costs
 Promotional materials  €6,350

Expenditure incurred prior to the date of approval is ineligible.

Payment

By agreement with the Campus Companies Manager, an interim grant payment can be made.

For grants of over €3,174, an auditors certificate must be attached.

Once you have completed your study, you must submit a claim form together with a final report outlining the conclusions of the study regarding the viability of your project ideas.  These documents must be received before the full or balance of the grant (assuming an interim payment) can be made.

You should initially discuss your outline application with our Campus Companies Manager or with your Development Adviser.
