Industry-Led Research Programme Overview

Enterprise Ireland's Industry-Led Research Programme supports medium-term 'shared agenda' research activity among companies who could not afford to fund such research on their own.
On 2nd June 2009, Conor Lenihan T.D Minister for Science, Technology, Innovation and Natural Resources announced details of the latest network to be established through this programme which will serve the biopharmaceutical sector in Ireland.

Enterprise Ireland is investing €2.3 million in the Biopharmaceutical Process Analytical Technology industry led research network which involves 15 companies. This latest announcement brings the number of networks of manufacturing and internationally-traded services companies that have come together to identify a way to solve a shared technology problem or opportunity that a research project could solve to 7.

Projects generally take between 9 months and 2 years to complete and the research is contracted out to a publicly-funded research institution with significant funding available from Enterprise Ireland.

The 7 industry-led research networks supported to date are;

BioPAT The Biopharmaceutical Process Analytical Technology Network
WISEN The Wireless Sensors Enterprise-Led Network (on-going)
PEIG The Power Electronics Industry Group (completed)

Competence Centres

A new dimension in industry-led research

Competence Centres are collaborative entities established and led by industry that are resourced by highly-qualified researchers associated with research institutions who are empowered to undertake market focussed strategic R&D for the benefit of industry.  They differ from the Industry-Led Research Projects in many ways, including the fact that the research agenda has a longer-term focus.

The objective of the Competence Centre initiative is to achieve competitive advantage for industry in Ireland by accessing the innovative capacity of the research community. To visit the Competence Centres website click here
