International Research Fund

Aim

The aim of the International Research Fund is to encourage and facilitate Irish 3rd level Research Performing Organisations (RPOs) to participate meaningfully in international collaborative consortia that are addressing industry relevant R&D and innovation issues, and where long-term potential for enhancing the wealth creating ability of the economy may exist.

Examples of such international consortia are:

Funding available

100% grant funding will be available up to €400,000 to cover research costs (salaries, travel, materials and consumables) associated with project.  Equipment costs will not be covered.

A 30% contribution to overheads (exclusive of capital equipment) will be paid to the Research Performing Organisation in support of general research infrastructure.

Eligibility

The International Research Fund is open to all researchers employed in the third-level sector and non-profit research agencies and organisations.

Application process

All applications are subject to a pre-screening and proposal evaluation by Enterprise Ireland, and where relevant, must provide details of any international assessment of the project.  Successful applications will be assessed using the following criteria:-

  • Level of Irish industry/enterprise engagement in the project
  • Level of potential for exploitation within the Irish economy
  • The track record of the researcher/research group
  • Level of knowledge gained and expertise developed by RPO group
  • Technical quality of the international reserach programme
