Aim
The International Research Fund is designed to facilitate Irish third level research performing organisations (RPO) to participate effectively in international collaborative consortia with an industrial partner based in Ireland and in a project which is addressing a close-to-market opportunity. A key characteristic of a successful proposal will be one which has a focus to enhance the wealth creation ability of the economy. Applicants will need to clearly demonstrate their potential to meet the demanding criteria relating to economic added value.
Examples of such international consortia are:
Funding available
100% grant funding will be available up to €250,000 to cover research costs (salaries, travel, materials and consumables) associated with project. Equipment costs will not be covered.
A 30% contribution to overheads (exclusive of capital equipment) will be paid to the Research Performing Organisation in support of general research infrastructure.
2010 funding is currently under review.
Eligibility
The International Research Fund is open to a researchers employed in the third-level sector and non-profit research agencies and organisations.
Application process
All applications are subject to pre-screening and proposal evaluation by Enterprise Ireland taking into account where relevant, details of any international assessment of the project proposal.Key criteria for a successful proposal include:

The extent of the RPO's contribution to the project and the resultant beneficial impact for the Irish industrial partner(s) and the economy as a whole.

The level of potential for exploitation within the Irish economy of new knowledge gained by RPO and the Irish industrial partner(s) in the consortium

The level of engagement between the RPO and the Irish industrial partner(s) and the 'added-value'.
