“The Open Innovation journey in Procter & Gamble - a global perspective”

Dr. Lurie-Luke underlines the critical importance of open innovation to P&G’s business strategy, how this ultimately delivers the required return to shareholders and the global reach of the programme including successful initiatives in China and India.  She also describes how Irish SME’s can become effective innovation partners with multinational corporations.

Head of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and Chair in Technology and Innovation Management, Imperial College London.

“Connect to Innovate”

Professor Gann describes tools and techniques that drive the innovation process thereby providing major improvements in efficiency and effectiveness in new product and service development.  The need for today’s business leaders to optimise the benefits of the digital economy while utilising existing engineering and technical skills is highlighted.

11.45 – 1.15 Parallel Breakout Sessions

During this period, there will be three specialist, thematic breakout sessions on innovation in services, new product development and advanced manufacturing technologies.  Each session will last 45 minutes and will be repeated.  Participants will therefore have the opportunity of attending two of the three sessions.

Innovation in Services - Aideen Waters

Head of Customer Focus and Innovation at Allianz Ireland.

“Making Innovation Tangible in an Intangible Industry”

Aideen describes the practical creative measures taken by Allianz in order to strengthen client relations, and the way in which innovative methods have reduced costs and increased revenues. Most remarkable is the way in which Allianz harnessed the innovative acumen of its own staff in order to develop winning strategies.

Breakout Session 2

Innovating for New Product Development - Professor Cornelius Herstatt

Professor, Institute of Technology and Innovation Management at the Hamburg University of Technology.

“How to use Analogies to develop breakthroughs in Innovation”

Professor Herstatt highlights the benefits of looking outside your own industrial sector - at corresponding processes in other sectors, at new materials, or at nature itself and how doing this has delivered success in product development.  He describes how such analogies can be used systematically in innovative product development and illustrates this with some examples from industry.

Breakout Session 3

Innovation in Advanced Manufacturing Technologies -  Professor G.Q. Zhang

“How manufacturers can embrace new technologies and opportunities to achieve innovative breakthroughs”

Prof. Dr. G.Q .(Kouchi) Zhang  is senior director of NXP Semiconductors, working on industrial strategy, roadmap and partnership. He is also chairing  "More than Moore" technology domain for European Technology Platform Nanoelectronics; serves as deputy director of European Center for Micro- and Nanoreliability (EUCEMAN); and plays an active role in Dutch national strategic innovation program for nanoelectronics and embedded systems.

Prof. Zhang is also professor for micro/nanoreliability in Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands. He has authored/co-authored more than 150 scientific publications (including books and book chapters).

Alex Osterwalder is an acknowledged world expert on business model innovation.  He presents his proven systematic process that allows you to innovate effectively across the business model where the biggest challenge is to think outside of the box.

CEO and Founder - Phive Plasma Technology (Ireland).

“The role of Innovation in Start-ups and Spin-Outs”

For multinationals and third level research institutions, technology can be brought to market successfully using a start-up or spin out.  Small entrepreneurial companies have proved that they can go to places where larger organisations can’t.  Bernard Hensey is an experienced technology entrepreneur who has held several senior corporate positions.  Bernard’s presentation underlines the do’s and don’ts of technology start-ups and describes how they can capture maximum value through innovation.

“Audacious new approaches in the thinking of small and large companies”

Dennis demonstrates how success in business involves utilizing skills we already have but do not necessarily use.  How achieving innovation in your organisation often demands an element of bravery in thinking and acting in ways that are not within the established order.
