Q. What Enterprises do we assist?

A. Enterprise Ireland supports:

  • Irish manufacturing and internationally traded services companies which are employing ten or more people
  • Overseas natural resources companies
  • High growth start ups
Note 1. Irish companies located in the Shannon Free Zone, Shannon or in any of the Gaeltacht areas should contact Shannon Development or Údarás na Gaeltachta respectively.
Note 2:Irish companies employing less than 10 people should contact their local County Enterprise Board

A. The key questions, which Enterprise Ireland considers before recommending financial assistance, are:

  • What are the needs of the company, as identified by the joint assessment of business development needs?
  • Is the proposed development commercially viable?
  • Is there a demonstrated need for State financial assistance?
  • Is there a fair sharing of risk and reward between the company and Enterprise Ireland?
  • How well does it fit with Enterprise Ireland's objectives?
  • How exactly is the Irish economy going to benefit from this investment?

Is the project helping to achieve broad objectives such as encouraging:

  • A high growth start up
  • A first time exporter
  • A high research and development performer
  • A company with a new overseas presence
  • A company with strong human resource development capability
  • An eBusiness company

Q. Can I set up a business if I am not an Irish citizen?

A. Non-EEA nationals (The EEA - European Economic Area - is comprised of the Member States of the European Union plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) setting up a business are required to obtain Business Permission.  There are exceptions to this rule and for further information contact the Immigration Division,
