Overview

Enterprise Ireland hosted the first BIG IDEAS Showcase on Tuesday 13th October 2009 at Croke Park. The event was organised by Enterprise Ireland's Research & Innovation Business Unit and showcased the commercial opportunities emerging from Ireland's Higher Education Institutes in the areas of:

  • Life Science & Food
  • ICT
  • Industrial Technologies

Three Enterprise Ireland Commercialisation Awards were presented recognising the achievements of those researchers who have successfully commercialised their research. The awardees were:

ICT Commercialisation Award   Dan Barry, Senior Researcher at the Audio Research Group at DIT.
Industrial Technologies Commercialisation Award   Dr. John Colreavy, Director of the CREST centre at DIT.
Lifesciences Commercialisation Award Professor John Lowry, founder of Blue Box Sensors Ltd and Head of Chemistry at NUI Maynooth

Who attended?

Venture capitalists, angel and private investors, entrepreneurs, innovators, international and Irish business executives, and representatives of the research community.

This full day event featured more than 20 presentations on innovations from the 3 key technology areas — Life Science & Food, ICT and Industrial Products.

The event afforded participants a unique opportunity to preview a wide array of technologies ready for commercialisation for world markets.
